Burn of the Day

The best gift any Christian can give a Christian who has the misfortune to live in a country dominated by Islamic fanatics is a one way plane ticket to the West. That our last Pope wanted to drench Western nations with followers of Islam was proof either of his idiocy or his insanity, although his malice as a motivation should not be rejected out of hand.

Christians persecuted by Muslims results in silence from the Bishops.

Christians persecuted by the Communists results in silence from the Bishops.

Christians persecuted by secular “democratic” Western governments (remember Merrick Garland swatting prolifers) results in silence from the Bishops.

Be a Catholic high school student visiting Washington, DC and get accosted by a left wing nut job and have your own Bishop put you down publicly.

Gaza….well, that’s different.

Good to see Pizzaballa there supporting his congregation and not just saying pretty words from afar. God protect them all.

If he really cared he would help them GET OUT OF THERE. Enough, already.

Per Frank @- “If he really cared he would help them GET OUT OF THERE. Enough, already.”

Please consider: Christians have lived in the area for thousands of years. It’s their home. No one wants to be forced to leave their home against their will. Many if not most have no intention of leaving.

It is just for the Church to support them and do what it can to help them live in peace.

Methinks they have rather a Catch 22. On the one hand, I’d be inclined to encourage them to arm themselves and acquire body armor. Reinforce your home against aggression. On the other hand, if all the neighbors already have guns, arming yourself and strengthening your home mostly makes you a target.
So, …unless you want to go through life wearing body armor, you have the choice to either leave, …or duck. ….A lot.

Gaza had a population of about 28,000 in 1947.

Yes but that’s not the complete picture. Gaza in 2020 had a population of 2.1 million (40th most densely populated city in the world). By the 2024- declined only by 6% because of death or displacement.

There are current no official death toll or displacement numbers because depending on who you ask, the death toll is 40% higher (according to Hamas) or 40% lower (according to Israel) of the published figures. If it’s 40% lower by Israel’s figures that means people won’t leave.

By the way, it’s important to note that the IDF stopped handing out passes for Christians to visit the Holy Land at the end of 2024, and they won’t help with assistance for medical help in Egypt which is the closest city.

So it’s trial by fire for the remaining Community. Given the length of their existence, they aren’t a community that will be forced into extinction lightly. God is on their side.
