I love it.
I’ve directed a few homosexuals to the website after explaining the great opportunities waiting for them to embrace God by offering up their same sex attraction as gifts to God.
This pick by Pope Leo is beautiful. HOPE is grounded in Jesus Christ.

I wonder if Anthony Stone will have a hissy fit over this appointment.
A number of Hennen’s statements as bishop of Davenport indicate he is much closer to the James Martin view than not. We need to be careful here. Our old friend Rich Raho thinks this is a wonderful appointment. Has good old Rich suddenly changed his stance on the Alphabet People? Doubtful.
His name is Stine and he doesn’t have hissy fits. Please. I don’t always agree with him, but he is always calm and rational in his analysis.
Frank, I am confused. Bishop Dennis Walsh is Bishop of Davenport isn’t he? I believe Hennen was Vicar General. We will see how he performs as master in his new Diocese.
Nope … I’m with Bishop Strickland (and others) on this one. That blurb should read: “Hennan was actively involved with Courage over a decade ago” …
“Regarding Fr. Hennen, he was noted to have been a key contributor to the Diocese of Davenport’s 2023 Guidelines for Pastoral Accompaniment of Sexual and Gender Minorities, a document that appears to speak more about “inclusion” and “listening” than about conversion, repentance, or truth.
Much of the language in this document, as well as statements attributed to Fr. Hennen, would seem to imply that it is the Church’s perennial teaching itself that is the source of harm – a dangerous suggestion. Also, the document frames the false anthropology behind gender ideology, rather than upholding the truth that God made them “male and female” (Genesis 1:27).
What is especially significant is that New Ways Ministry, an organization that departs from the moral teachings of the Church, praised the Davenport guidelines that Fr. Hennen helped craft, labeling them a milestone for LGBTQ+ pastoral care.”
Yikes!!!
Thank you CAG and Frank.
Lord have Mercy.
As poster CAG notes, the original tweet is misleading. It’s no mistake that james martin, the dissident new ways ministries, national catholic reporter, among others, have praised the appointment. Perhaps it’s not so much about Heenen as the kind of appointments Leo has been making. But, Heenan’s own statements say that he ‘evolved’ in his understanding to embrace “lbgt” ideology, though he doesn’t label it as ideology. The guidelines he fashioned for his diocese substitute lgbt stuff for catholic language- “LGBT+ Catholics,” “transgender,” while inferring this is how God made them, and there is an adoption of the notion of transgender as legitimate, and not as mental illness in true cases of transexualism. No mention seems to be made of chastity. As a whole it is based on faulty anthropological tenets in the line of lgbt. The guidelines were praised by News Ways, which speaks for itself. The diocese has multiple “LGBTQ ministries.” The diocese does still have a form of Courage- it seems to only consist of on-line support groups- so to have this other stuff along with it is utterly baffling and of course problematic- like you can choose based upon your personal opinion rather than Church teaching.
In the big picture, all or just about all of Leo’s appointments of bishops are of heterodox, problematic men, with a similarity of being homosexualists. That cant be an accident. The same for his appointments to the holy see so far. Also, Cardinal Fernandez of the DDF- who is still there- after a meeting with Leo, recently told media that Fiducia Supplicans will remain in full force.
Yes, we have to wait and see with Hennan but to say there’s nothing problematic to be concerned over is inaccurate. The fact that he may have positive elements should not cause us to be complacent- he has celebrated the Latin Mass, so…That’s exactly how bad things take hold, tolerating them because there’s good mixed in. There seems an increasing trend of the orthodox taking the place of the Francis sycophants, rationalizing things and making it appear Leo is something that the evidence so far indicates he’s not.
