The Mossad couldn’t have pulled a better op. Go here to read about it. This will sting the pride of Fearless Leader Putin, who will attempt to kill a lot of Ukrainian civilians in retaliatory drone and missile strikes. The Ukrainian War will grind on its way, but drones are having a huge impact on war, and I hope our military brass are taking copious notes.

Putin is a prideful man. That makes him stupid. Should he continue seeing the rest of the world as an enemy, then the rest of the world will see Russia as an enemy.
Putin could end this tomorrow and keep what he has taken. Of course, he will not.
Makes me wonder who has what deep inside American lines…
Every conflict in “modern” history has had an increasing number of civilians targeted and killed. I fear that, in the next conflict, the distinction will be erased and being in the military will actually be safer than being a “non-combatant.” 💔
This sounds like something the Finn’s would have pulled off in 1939.
Sounds like Wile E. Coyote’s dynamite darts finally worked.
Now take out a bridge trestle on the Trans-Siberian Express and we’re in “Force 10 from Navaronne” territory.
“Just give it a little more time”.
Russians tend to be a bit slow but they learn well. As we approach 20 July, I am sure more than one thinks he could do a better job than in Germany in 1944.
Hmm. Drone attacks having quite an effect.
Drones attacking a military location will share some traits with birds.
I suggest our military brass purchase a large number of shotguns and shells, start training our troops in each service to shoot skeet. Such would be a comparatively low-cost means to fight
John- better yet, *we* should be shooting skeet.
Whoever comes at the USA will be *less* ethical than we are. Civilians may become the preferred targets.

No.

Fergusson (“War Before History”) makes your point: that as a percentage of total population, civilian casualties have been dropping in the modern era. Genocide was more common in prehistoric and ancient warfare. The Mongols would spent weeks cutting off heads by hand and wiped out entire cities and cultures (mentoring the modern Russians BTW). A larger percentage of civilians perished in premodern times than at present from disease and deprivation.
He was quick to add that none of this makes modern industrial warfare “better”, just less lethal of material civilization.
Our Lady of Fatima promised a third world war of unimaginable proportions.

What makes this action so impressive is that not only did it cause serious damage to Russian planes and airfields at very low cost, it showed that Ukraine can overcome Russian border security pretty easily, and, even more, they can mount a really dangerous insurgency even if Putin gets his fantasy of Ukrainian capitulation. This is going to make Putin and the Russian brass even more paranoid than they already are, which means they will kill or imprison many people in their own ranks who they suspect collaborated with the Ukrainians. That, in turn, makes everyone even more paranoid in a vicious cycle. The downstream effects of this attack are as important as the damage it did at first.
What truly impresses me is that, while Putin continues his brutality against civilians to coerce capitulation, Ukraine continues targeting Russian military assets.
Putin could have ended this anytime he wanted. Now he can’t end it like this.
The Russian psyche will not allow it.
The CCP owned land anywhere in the US must end and soon,
Bruised Optimist,
That’s true to a point. There will never be a better deterrent to suffering violence ourselves than our each being armed and trained to use our arms.
Still, …this seems to have been an assault by drones on aircraft as they set on a ramp. Impressive, yet the same move could be used against us.
Drone warfare has changed many of the risk assessments we must make about how best to keep our own weapon systems effective.
