The food at the cafeteria in Casa Santa Marta consists of little more than simple spaghetti, boiled vegetables, minestrone soup and lamb skewers for the duration of the secret ritual, according to the BBC.
“Food you could eat at a train station,” groused Cardinal Mauro Piacenza — who is from the part of Italy where pesto originated, the New York Times reported.
Others described being served “watery sauce” and bland pastas at the cafeteria, which Pope Francis sought to ensure served simple food during his tenure.
Go here to read the rest. No one wants a 33 month Conclave ever again. Put the below on the menu if they take too long:

I’m perfectly fine with basics being served. Especially since most of these men have completely forgotten what it is to actually work for a living and the occasional necessity of having to subsist on staple-like food.
Bread, water, and unsweetened coffee. Should be sufficient for them.
If the conclave ends up being a long process then feeding the Cardinals too many carbs ie. Pasta, wont be kind on their waistlines. Big meals are usually followed by long naps.
Conclave would be over in 15 minutes if we fed them bugs. There’s a reason why a lot of Bishops and Cardinals are fat.
Speaking of conclave menus, here’s an interesting “Tasting History” video about food that was served at some of the medieval conclaves…. some of which was so good (prepared by “one of the world’s first celebrity chefs”) that the cardinals were in no hurry to leave. The featured recipe (baby back ribs) certainly wouldn’t make me want to leave to soon….

Considering the likely product of the conclave, send in the Iron Chefs!
If Morimoto and Bobby Flay can save us a few months of vaguely heretical statements, so be it!
I would wager that most of the Cardinals could well benefit from attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings after the Conclave is concluded, and regular use of a rowing machine. Last night’s workout for this diabetic cardiac patient is attached. Yes, I am intimately familiar with gluttony and its result: cardiac arrest. I have no sympathy for the Cardinals.
Maybe they should hire the cooks from sketchy restaurants in Liverpool.

Minestrone, pasta, lamb, and vegetables made in Italy? Even the worst is going to be better than what I’ll be having for lunch. Although taking fresh Italian vegetables and boiling them, the mere sight of that could motivate a conclave to a fast decision. The Church must have Peter and zucchini must be roasted and glazed with oil!
@Josh, amazing that you’re taking your time to post here even though you were a Cardinal… oh wait, you weren’t!? Do you know what service is? Is 80%, 100% of your time given to helping the poor, those in need, those with less than you?
How do you know what these men do or don’t do regarding work and the burdens they carry!?
What is working for a living? Digging a ditch all day? Is that hard enough? What is the cutoff? What if they’re in absolute paradise digging a ditch? Is that okay? Don’t be ignorant, instead maybe be understanding and pray!
