Compared to his predecessors, he wasn’t much of an intellect. Thrift-shop markdown Jesuit.

It would be agreeable if the next Pope were to tell priests of the Society of Jesus to report to the ordinary of the diocese where they had spent the largest bloc of time since their ordination and apply for incardination and to tell the ordinaries of diocese where the Society of Jesus owns property to take possession of it. You might do that with the Legion of Christ as well.

St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI would have overshadowed any current Cardinal, you don’t get intellects like those two hanging around the local chancery too often. It would be nice if the new Holy Father was comfortable with Catholic teaching and didn’t feel the need to make a mess of it continually.

Humility is essential.

Stupid without humility insists he can fix the TV and doesn’t realize he can’t until the parts are all over the floor.
Smart without humility “upgrades” the TV so that is tuned manually by those who have an intimate knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum – and no one else!

We’ve had good popes from different religious orders. I don’t think the traditional Jesuit mentality, or Ignatian spirituality, and especially not the current Jesuit mentality fit the papacy.

Pinky is quite correct. It is simply not the Jesuit chrism to serve as Pope and probably not many, if any, high ranking authoritative positions in the Church.
