Because of the Amazon series “House of David”, I decided to re-read the entire First Book of Samuel in one sitting (not difficult for me, as I teach Scripture). It is gritty, gory, and a fantastic lesson on the sin of pride and the need to depend on God in all things, but on HIS terms, not ours. The sons of Eli taking the Ark into battle treating it like a talisman is a perfect example. Saul’s rise and fall is another one.
