“Catholic” means “universal”.
Thought For The Day

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
The Catholic Religion is the most common sense, logical, and spiritually fulfilling belief process in all of creation. Perfect love is God. Perfect reason is Catholic. True God and True Man, Jesus Christ is all.
That’s a really good point Father has made. All are based around nations.
There are so many Orthodox Churches besides Greek and Russian. There’s Romania, Serbian, Armenian, Bosnian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Coptic…most come from countries from the former Soviet Bloc.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is somewhat of a phenomenon and is the largest growing Orthodox Church after the Russian. They aren’t in communion with Eastern Orthodoxy, maybe because they are left to fend for themselves in a country with a high level of Muslims and protestants and they stand alone in Africa (except for Egypt). I have high hopes they could unite with the Catholic Church one day because the main differences are silly ones- the Pope, the cassocks, the ordination of deacons as boys (rather than adults)…but the major one is they believe Jesus had One nature- divine only. Rome has potential to do better in Ethiopia and bring them into the fold. Ethiopians Christian fidelity to their Christianity is beautiful.
