As a practical matter the days of Ukraine having open access to the US Treasury are done. Like clockwork, war weariness sets in among Americans three years into a conflict, and continued funding at prior levels of the Ukrainian war enjoys little popular support. The Ukrainians can either have a negotiated settlement or they can fight it out with Russia and hope that the Europeans, this time, will match shooting their mouths off with effective steps to make up for lack of US funding. If I was Ukrainian, I would not hold my breath.

The purpose of the meeting was to sign an agreement over minerals, as a prelude to America serving as mediator for a settled peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Throughout this meeting Zelenskyy said repeatedly that Russia is evil, that Putin is a monster, and (most importantly) that no deal with Russia was possible, that Russia could not be trusted to honor a cease fire, and that Ukraine would not make any concessions. At the same time he tried to get a guarantee of American troops in the area with demands for “security guarantees.” Zelenskyy made it crystal clear that he did not want negotiations with Russia.
In such an environment, where is there even an avenue for diplomacy? Peace is off the table. The only options are for the US to concede to Zelenskyy’s demands and go to war with Russia (kicking off WWIII) or to cut ties with Ukraine.

Zelensky was a fool to turn down Trump’s plan. Trump is right – WW III is now a looming possibility with the Europeans flapping their gums – lets see if their performance matches their rhetoric, because I am completely in agreement that the US taxpayer has been milked for far too long, at the behest of the MIC, Biden, Obama and the crazy Dems whose only desire is to bag Trump.
When the Stercus hits the fan they will pipe a different tune.
