One of the stupidest things we do in modern society is apologies *for* other people.
If they are not sorry, what good is the apology?
Who deputized you to apologize for me?
Apologizing for dead people that I am not associated with is worse. I will apologize for any Indians I slaughtered, blacks I enslaved, women I raped, countries I conquered. (PS, that number is 0) I will pray for folks who actually have done those things, but I am not adopting their sins as my own. I screw up enough stuff on my own without asinine guilt by association.
All men need to apologize for our grandfathers who worked 6 days a week so their wives could be home with the children.

Overheard recently a conversation between two librarians discussing the deaths of Canadian native children at church run schools. One would think librarians would be up to date.
