I attended a (formerly) Jesuit institution in the middle of hillbilly country, and there was always a weird juxtaposition of the intellectual snobbery with the local population. The locals correctly called the school out for said snobbery, and I agreed with them.
Academic education has decayed into an exercise in gamesmanship.

And one more thing..as for Fishwrap’s calumny against VP Vance, calling his discussion of the Ordo Amoris “sophomoric”, perhaps the author should have first done a bit of research. He would have found that the now-infamous letter to the US bishops, which probably was written by Cupich or McElroy, not only contradicts numerous previous statements by popes, including Benedict XVI and John Paul II, but also contradicts several previous statements in documents signed by Francis himself, in which the concept of Christian love expanding from ourselves in concentric circles is presented. The only thing theologically incorrect about what Vance said was that he started his recitation of the order of love with our families, instead of with God, which was certainly an innocent oversight, given his clearly expressed faith.
