Why did Milley and Fauci have security details?

Years ago, The Washington Monthly did a story on security details for Washington big wigs, including an account of the Secretary of Agriculture arriving in a limo with a crew of goons in tow. They noted that among the big wigs who declined a detail were the FBI director (Louis Freeh) and the HHS Secretary (Donna Shalala, who was about 5′ tall and squat). The thesis of the article was that security details were a function of ego. Please recall that from 1975 to 1994 Jacqueline Onassis shlepped around Manhattan with no more security than that provided by the doorman of her building. Richard Nixon and his wife gave up their detail in 1986. Bess Truman’s detail amounted to one man in a car parked outside her house. Richard J. Daley’s wife during his latter years as mayor was protected by a single municipal police officer stationed on her porch.

And those 51 officials who lied through their teeth about Hunter’s laptop should have their security clearances pulled en bloc.
When Henry Kissinger left office in 1977 he and his wife were frequently harassed in public places by members of the Lyndon LaRouche cult. He paid for his security detail out of the earnings of his consulting business.
Agreed on all counts, Art. Also I believe the clearances for The Fifty One have already been pulled. 👍
It can be harder to find a single goose than it is to find a whole gaggle. Sometimes, I suspect, security can be counterproductive.
