Discussion, and the amount thereof, has absolutely no bearing on what is true.
Immoral views aside, Martin does not conduct himself as a Priest should/would. He always comes across as highly political, highly controversial, highly provocative and devoid of any pastoral, holy or Christ-centred qualities. Is he “actually” a Priest…
“Since this topic is being discussed again …”
Ha! Like he’s ever stopped discussing it?!?!
I’ll see his “one of the world’s leading O.T. scholars, Richard J. Clifford S.J.” and raise him one of heaven’s leading O.T. scholars, Paul, who says Dick Clifford is full of crap.
It just looks to me like his definition of ‘thoroughly misguided’ means nothing more than ‘it doesn’t help my argument.’ A bit like how ‘world’s leading (fill in the blank)’ as often as not means ‘agrees with me.’
By the progressive, modernist point of view you could justify eating the forbidden fruit, building the golden calf, King Solomon having his heart turned away from God by giving into his foreign wives, and the choice of Barabbas instead of Christ during the Passion.
