Why our tax dollars fund this outfit (and PBS) is beyond me!
Things like this are probably the best argument for the internet.
Hoping fervently that the new DOGE will put PBS and NPR on the trash heap, where they belong.
As annoying and corrosive as PBS and NPR can be, they are relatively niche audiences of the true believer left. More problematic is the unacknowledged leftist leanings of the mainstream media.
NPR is already screaming that it’s budget will be cut. It is seen as an impartial outlet by the left. ( Yeah, I know!) There are bigger fish to fry and it is useful to be able to listen in on what these people think is sane.
Besides, mark my words, you go after PBS and there will be ads and memes of a sad Big Bird everywhere.
In my opinion, leave this citadel on the field and go after more strategic targets. Time is limited.
“Besides, mark my words, you go after PBS and there will be ads and memes of a sad Big Bird everywhere.”
Yeah, pleading guilty to having that thought be the first thing to mind.
3-2-1 Contact right behind it, and Mr Rodgers. Not sure if those latter two have actually been on in the last 30 years. I grew up with them though.
I could think of various other shows that I watched on PBS at one time or another. MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour, the man who painted landscapes, This Old House, there was the car show on Saturday morning, a fishing/hunting show Saturday afternoon–leaned strongly toward hunting. Or radio shows I listened to. I recall I paid heed to All Things Considered for some \months on NPR, then realized I was yelling at the radio more than agreeing. ..”Spying” on the enemy does have it’s limits….
I think PBS mostly came about during an era when TV content was limited enough that a “public use content” channel made sense. Or, …it made sense when we only had 5 channels to choose from.
I think most of the good content that I grew up with probably either may be found on DVD now or can be replaced by something else. EWTN content comes to mind.
Along that line Supreme Court leans toward TikTok ban. There are several US and Canadian businessmen that would buy the Chicom company.
It is funny to think that Trump may serve as long as Obama did.
