November 25, 1783: End of the Revolutionary War

 

The Revolutionary War lasted more than eight years.  All of the States had seen fighting and to many of the men and women who lived through that conflict it seemed as if it would go on forever.  But peace finally came along with a complete American victory.  On November 25, 1783 Washington and 800 of his Continentals liberated New York City in the wake of the British withdrawal, and the most consequential war in American history became a matter of memory.  The war was ended, but the American Revolution continued and has not been completed yet.
