“…redirected the focus of where the Church is going.”

It doesn’t take much to see where other Churches have gone that had adopted cultural disorders to please the culture.

A Focus on Jesus and His unchanging truths will continue to be the guiding light which has illumed the narrow path to eternal Life with God.

All other paths lead to a wall which one tries to scale. Only through the gate may one enter.

Jesus is that gate.

His…I repeat, HIS word leads to everlasting Life.

Men can not lay down with each other and expect God to bless their activity. Those who believe otherwise are foolish hippies selling swamp land.

If the Church ever “launches” into a new direction one could assume that the remnant will be made up of men like these;

I just hope Cupich *is* wrong.

My kids are continually aggravated by the innovative church.

If this synod malarkey is used as authority to institute further stupid changes in some “spirit of synodality”, the synod will be historic and mark a change in direction.

They will remember it- in retrospect, when they look around and ask how did we get here? Oh yeah, the Spirit of Synodality…

Amen, Optimist. And by a similar token, we can look around us today and ask the same question: “How did we get here? Oh yeah, the Spirit of Vatican II.” These developments are not isolated, they are a progression.

There is nothing which prevents local pastors and administrators from dispensing with Oregon Catholic Press materials and the like, ‘extraordinary ministers’ every Sunday, girl acolytes, guitars, upright pianos, versus populum, and homilies untethered from the day’s readings. They (1) Just.Do.Not.Feel.Like.It or (2) they do not want to contend with a parish council largely composed of people who Just.Do.Not.Feel.Like.It.

Art- very often 2) is compounded by 3) call from the bishop telling the priest to make nice with (aka capitulate to) the parish council.

I’ve watched the Protestants, where the sheep run the shepherd. It always leads to two things. The shepherd is emasculated by the sheep because the sheep have the power directly or indirectly to remove the shepherd. Factions develop among the sheep because they know they have the power to change the behaviour of the shepherd.

So much wrong in the Church could be healed by long tenure of priests in a single location (you can’t wait it out til Fr Newguy comes) and bishops who lead (Fr Goodfornuthin is disciplined or removed)

Homerun tbo.

I live and serve in one such location.
How blessed we are in our parish.
btw…Our Legion of Mary presidium just aided in the start of a new presidium fifty miles away.

One Holy, obedient and committed priest can make a huge difference in a diocese.

Exactly! Young people loath mediocrity. It’s in the DNA of the youth to demand more. The synod has served them hogwash. Who even noticed it took place apart from a few prayers during the Prayers of the Faithful every now and then. One of the most historic moments? Pfft.

To paraphrase our host: Cupich isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed–not even a little bit–but he is a tool!
