Best I can see, two people who complained about a pair of priests contend that Prevost send defective documentation to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the CDF declined to pursue a case contra the two priests in question on that basis. (Not sure if they’ve seen the documentation). The two people complained to the civil authorities, but the civil authorities said the statute of limitations had run out on the offenses alleged. I supposed one could be like Rod Dreher and Leon Podles and take everything an accuser says (in this case about the two priests in question and about the bishop’s correspondence) at face value. The accusers’ complaint to the diocese occurred about nine months before the bishop was appointed to his current position in Rome.
