They have to be guarding the streets of Heaven for a reason?

Very well said, Don!
Even at their worst, they seem to retain the fear of God. Strange, but true. And from what I’ve seen, God does seem to have a kind of predilection for those Devil Dogs that aspire to be the guardians of heaven itself (and by the way, Holy Angels and Pure Spirits, your help won’t be needed–we’re here now).
Apparently Marines do guard duty everywhere, in Heaven above and down below with the USS Georgia SSGN-729. The attached photo shows some Marines doing underwater operations outside the submarine while it is currently in the Mediterranean off the coast of Israel. Back when I served, being a coward, I was very happy to stay warm and dry at the Reactor Plant Control Panel. PS, whenever we drop these guys off somewhere, someone evil is about to see the Lord Jesus. And when they return, we slowly back away into obscurity. No one knows for certain what happened except God, the SOB that was sent to him, and the Marines themselves.
Here’s another photo of Marines waiting to swim out from the dry deck shelter on the USS Georgia SSGN-729. It ain’t very dry in the picture! These guys are absolutely awesome. But we always kept them in the torpedo room (for everyone’s safety. 😉 )
But the Marines still need the Navy to get them there.
Greg,
If we just pretend otherwise long enough, then we can convince ourselves that we’re not really part of the DON, and that the Navy really was just invented to drive Marines to where they want to go. (Typical Devil Dog view, from my years of experience with them.)
