Funny. I don’t think the criticisms of the flood of newcomers has been their religion.

Criticism justly centers around:
1) outright criminal behavior
2) lack of respect for the law after their initial illegal act of entry
3) the government injecting large concentrations of them into portions of the country
4) the government taking our money to give them goods far beyond basic humanitarian aid

Yeah, we’re pissed off. For all the reasons above.

You can also justly add being lectured to as another reason to be pissed off. If Americans have any sense left, they will flip the bird to the current crop of social engineers this November.

Still waiting on the priority date for my step-son and his wife to move up so that they can immigrate from the Philippines and live with us. It’s been 3 years since this process started. And it’ll be tens of thousands of dollars before it ends and everyone is settled in. At this point, maybe they should just get on a jetplane to Mexico and walk across the border, pretending they are Hispanic. Yes, sarcasm, folks.

BTW, our immigration system is broken, primarily because it’s set up for illegals and not for productive, useful, hardworking legals. Why is that? Because Democrats who are in power will give the illegals the right to vote and they’ll vote Democrat, but the legals who become citizens will vote Republican.

LQC- from your description of thousands of dollars it sounds like they got taken, or she had some prior immigration complications. I’ve had some experience in that field. I’m sure it’s been no picnic. You guys will be in my prayers.

The frontier was closed in 1890 and the agricultural population began to decline in 1920. The country is settled. It might benefit from some leavening from people abroad who want to savor American life and contribute to it.

Temporary residency permits should be issued only to accredited employees of foreign governments and their dependents, the small corps of authentic refugees and their dependents; and students, teachers, and their dependents. Schools wishing to admit or hire foreigners should have to purchase an educational visa in the primary market via periodic multiple price auctions or purchase the unused time of departed visa holders on a secondary exchange. Such visas should be non-renewable. If the stock of temporary residents in your country exceeds about 0.5% of the total, you need to institute a moratorium on the issuance of educational visas.
==
As for settlers’ visas, the proper annual issuance should be somewhere between 250,000 and 400,000. For a head of household and any person over 14 therein to enter the queue for one, they should have to pass a background check, a physical, and a proficiency test in English (written and oral). Before a household can enter, every member who has reached the age of 14 must pass those tests.
==
Naturalization should require that you have spent the majority of your natural life in the country living within the law. The status of those born in this country or its abiding dependencies should be a function of their mother’s status unless they are of legitimate birth and their father has a preferred status.
==
Any alien should have to pay their dues before they can be granted access to common provision on equal terms with natives.
==
Aliens accused of offenses more severe than a petty misdemeanor should be placed in preventive detention. If the case is not processed, or they are acquitted, or their sentence is less than their time in detention, you can indemnify them on release according to a standard rate.
==
Anyone reasonably suspected of being an illegal alien should be jailed immediately. If you’re wrong, you can indemnify them according to a standard rate. If you’re right, they should receive a prison sentence and then be deported on release.
==
Anyone who applies for refugee status and their dependents should be jailed immediately. If they’ve skipped over other countries before they arrived here, they should be summarily deported to their home country or a place adjacent. They should stay in detention until their case is fully processed. If their claim is approved, you can indemnify them on release.

Note that Catholics were expected to assimilate and they in fact they did assimilate. Otherwise a large chunk of the population of the Midwest would still be speaking German only (with some enclaves of Swedish, Norwegian and French.)

Of course giving up our Catholic faith was never an option, but we did accept as a culture (with support of many bishops) that living in America meant being American.

Frs. Ambrose and Krupp, much like the critical race theorists, appear to have an overly filtered view of history, and a lack of introspection. I seem to recall something about a splinter and a beam.
