Blood Money Isn’t What It Was

Today, the NY Times published a follow-up in the business section which makes the case that the business of abortion is not going well almost anywhere you look around the country. The story recounts the experience of a clinic in Washington DC which tried to expand in the Los Angeles area. It didn’t go well.

The move to California was not an easy one. Dr. Reeves and Dr. Russo spent nearly a year scouring Los Angeles County for office space, only to have most landlords back out once they realized the clinic provided abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The doctors eventually found a spot in Beverly Hills, where the City Council had unanimously affirmed abortion’s legality shortly before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

But as the clinic filed the necessary paperwork to obtain an operating license and began extensive renovations, the problems began. An anti-abortion group, Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, started a series of protests: papering the building with fliers of aborted fetuses, projecting the words “murder mill” onto its facade and marching outside the seven-story building, which was home to dozens of other health care businesses.

Not surprisingly, their new landlord canceled their lease, arguing that their presence was making things difficult for other tenants. So after spending nearly $2 million prepping the new site (which suggests business has been good in Washington DC at some point), the clinic had nothing to show for it. They have sued the landlord but for the moment it appears they are not expanding to LA.

Go here to read the rest.  In the fight against abortion we have two great allies:  God, the Lord of Life, and the unsung pro-life foot soldier, endlessly inventive and endlessly willing to fight this struggle for the unborn if it takes another 50 years.

I’m not surprised. As soon as they mandated insurance to pay for abortions, the bureaucracy would end up doing more harm to the industry than anyone else, financially-speaking.

This, for the pro-death side, was one of the ultimate be careful what you wish for fulfillments.

When I saw the headline I thought it was the Babylon Bee. Glad to see it is real.

This is the best thing I’ve read in a while! $2mill down the drain only for their lease to be cancelled. They literally got run out of town. God infinitely bless Survivors of Abortion Holocaust. Heaven is rejoicing. So proud of them 🥲

Let’s not ignore the brave landlords in this story.

First, those who backed out when they realized the “clinic” provided abortion after 20 weeks.

Second, the landlord who is braving a California court to get out of the lease made to the abortionists.

Thank God that there is some life left in California, where the state tends to better protect vice than virtue.

If an abortion clinic is in a multi-business building sooner or later the lease is not renewed. The other tenants complain about crying women escorted in the elevator; seeing bags of medical waste (aborted babies) on way to incinerator; and pro-life praying groups (Catholics, Espiscopalians, and Protestants) outside the building. Clinics late on rent. This is what drove an abortion clinic out of the City of Fairfax. Soon after another clinic applied to the town council and was refused a permit. Sadly it was one of my then neighbors a fallen away Catholic that was very vocal pro in the audience.

I have long suspected that the Democrat push for unlimited, taxpayer funded abortion is an attempt to bail out another “too big to fail” industry.

In a sense the abortion business is a bit like the porn business in relation to public reactions. While the left proclaims the right of both to exist, real estate owners want neither on their property. This action causes a self identification as sleezy and immoral.
