Some grifters, some people whose supposed objects were not what they pretended they were. Interestingly, Jonah Goldberg ended up at odds with his mother over Trump. John and Norman Podhoretz have also been at odds. Robert Stacy McCain has made the case that Charles Sykes (editor of The Bulwark) is bought and paid for, but others did not need the money. David Frum and George Will are independently wealthy, one from inheritance and one from an earlier era in American journalism when some writers were very handsomely compensated (assisted by his wife’s lobbying business). Mona Charen is married to a flush Washington BigLaw attorney; her career in topical commentary was at its peak ca. 1995; she likely does not supply more than 10% of the household income. It’s a reasonable inference that Jonah Goldberg and his wife have a considerable private income and were the recipients of large gifts from his parents if not hers. David French’s career and finances are so puzzling that one reasonable explanation is that he’s some sort of plant.
Grifter extraordinaire, for sure. And his comment doesn’t even make sense. What a tool.
I think most families had some tension over Trump. Ours did, up until late-2020 when even his former fans were so appalled by his behaviour that we are all just going to keep quiet and vote our conscience.

Anyone in your family pondering Hunter Biden?
Art, are you implying that both sides do it?

The answer to that question is one that Mr. McClarey would deem inapposite for his comboxes. You should probably hear it from someone.
Speaking about 2020, the 2020 “Summer of Love” riots, with all the death and destruction, were given kid glove treatment. That year’s DNC Presidential convention didn’t have much to say about them. IIRC during his VP introduction Walz defended the riots. On Jan 6 the beautiful people in D.C. were made to feel the love for less than one day.and found it to be intolerable. I guess that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
