If the present makeup of the College of Cardinals is any indication, that annulment of a future pope will come a long ways in the future.
When Benedict said the Church will be smaller, I didn’t know it would be bc of the pope .
I suspect that any reconversion of the Church and thus, the world, will have to occur over many years, or be the result of a major catastrophe. In either case, I won’t be around to see it. Keep the faith above all things.
Re: Don L’s point, I have been saying to anyone who will listen that things will not change until we have an existential crisis – the Gods of the Copybook Headings will need to return.
We definitely won’t get Francis II in name. That will be radioactive, given his widespread unpopularity.
I think the best that can be hoped for is a triangulator between the agenda of Francis and that of his immediate predecessors. But you could also get Francis without the name.
I am pessimistic (as per usual), but I don’t care as much with a patriarch between me and Rome.
I recall during ROTC hearing a cautionary note about your relationship with your boss: Be careful what you wish for. The next guy could always be worse!
