PopeWatch: Rupnik
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
“Not just a bad Pope but a bad man.” We have known this for many years. A few are waking up to it, but unfortunately an overwhelming majority still think he’s great. These are the same Catholics who don’t believe in the Real Presence, approve of gay marriage, abortion, rarely go to Mass, etc..
It is beyond my level of competence to judge this or any Pope but in the future, we might look back on the reign of this sublime Doctor of the Spirit of Vatican II and thank him for documenting so clearly the errors of this age by embracing them so fiercely. Alas for him his time before a tribunal with the competence and authority to judge him might not find him up to expectations.
Who knows?
Maybe the pontiff was sexually assaulted and was raped himself. Blaming himself for the rape.
Looking upon victims in an abstract way? As if they had it coming or something distorted like that.
Otherwise this obscene disrespect for the victims shows that his absence of prudence is unbecoming of a cleric, no less unbecoming of a school yard bully.
Judgement truly belongs to God since God knows exactly the intent and level of malice in the heart.
Prayers for the victims, who, btw, will end up saving the perpetrator and those who cover for him, if he indeed is unrepentant. Saving him from hell with their prayers for him. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
I am not Popsplaining. Just wondering aloud about the Pope and this blatant disrespect of others. Especially the abused.
It is perverse how this ugly art by an ugly man is pushed forward to center stage again and again.
I’m going to take the view that he is too lazy to commission new art and is simple recycling Rupnik stuff because it’s available and the Vatican has already invested in it over the decades. And he will probably continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
I don’t think the Pope is deliberately trolling women survivors of abuse because I don’t think the Pope has the ability to think that deep. Similarly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has no idea how his inane actions and words affect people. He is indifferent.
We are stuck with him as Pope for now I’m afraid. He isn’t about to change.
I agree with Ezabelle. Further, Pope Francis is a man of stunted intellect. And I utterly despise him.
Ezabelle- while I genuinely admire your charity when it comes to Francis’ motivations, it is not convincing to me that me must recycle Rupnik’s art because it’s available.
The Vatican museums have literally tens of thousands of works to choose from.
Best case scenario, Francis is working from an overgenerous not proven guilty stance. Personally, I do not think that is the most likely motivation 💔

He may be an abuser himself & simply be trying to justify himself. I have come to the conclusion that he has been involved in homosexual acts & therefore feels a need to justify his own behavior.
