There’s a tale about Heisenberg (I believe) who worked out the fusion of hydrogen in the sun’s core. He was picnicking with his intended on the riverbank near Heidelberg on a warm day. Suddenly, he leapt to his feet, pointed at the sun and exclaimed: “I just figured out how that son of a b***h works!” I used to tell that story to my all-girl chemistry classes at Notre Dame High School, asking humorously if they’d date anyone who swore at the sky.
