As Donald noted in the Tweet provided above, the liberals of today would so regard Thomas Jefferson if they really knew what he said and did.
To be liberal or progressive or Democrat is to be the personification of the symbol of the Democratic Party.

I think it is so exquisitely beautiful how heaven rang an “alarm bell in the night” for Deism and for Jefferson in particular: namely, his daughter solemnly asking his permission to become a nun. Anything that made those self-important “rationalists” seriously begin to doubt whether their efforts would have any effect whatsoever on the existence of the Church is very beautiful, in my book.
