Vote Democrat:  Mortal Sin 2024

Over a decade  ago I voiced this statement, in print:

It is a mortal sin for a catholic with a well-formed conscience to vote for any democrat at any level of government.

Since then, every election cycle, this has been repeated  in numerous articles and  letters to editors across the country.

Evils: Past, Present, & Promised

The ensuing reactions, blowback, pushback, castigations, threats, and condemnations of me were to be expected , but not the vitriolic vehemence of some of them, especially from democrats (many of whom with a straight face said they are devout, practicing catholics)  who had had a lock on the catholic vote for over a century, and from the catholic church lackeys and minions of the democrat party who received tens of millions in government funding for their dioceses, tax-exempt charities, and 501(c)(3) entities.

Various badges of honor have been accorded me by those who realized the impact of such a statement on their power and the maintenance of such power via the ballot box, including the threat, in print, that I should be subjected to certain actions of intrinsic evil.

But as the years have gone by and my warnings have included  that you must, in correctly forming your conscience, not only learn about the evils that the democrats have promoted and perpetrated in the past and the evils that they were presently advocating for and doing at any given time. Also I stressed that  you must also pay close attention  to what they promise to do, both explicitly in public statements and platforms, and implicitly in what they tried to enact into legislation or by the surreptitious insidious insertion into our culture of evils via government regulations and so-called  presidential “executive orders

The democrats have applauded each other for the past evils they have done, they have proclaimed the evils they were at present doing, and they have  boasted about the evil they were going to do in the future – and again and again  vicious evils that they had pledged to do they did.” Again and again they have made good on their promises to further darken our present darkness.

A catholic with a well formed conscience knows of all of their evils, praeteritis, presentibus, et futuris, past, present and future.

Dragging & Screaming, Gut Wrenching Agreement – Democrats: Evil

Over the years and the last five elections cycles, fewer and fewer commentators have disagreed . Some have even, begrudgingly, admitted that I was right, especially in view of some recent intrinsic evil , once only promised, but then given devilish reality in the actions of democrats at all levels of government.

One comment from the last election cycle is illustrative:

Anyhow, I have been critical of folks like Guy McClung, who said voting for any Democrat would be a mortal sin. As long as Dan Lipinski was on the ballot I think it was OK to vote for him even as a Democrat. But now that the Democrats basically kicked him to the curb, I can’t see how it could be right any longer to vote for a Democrat. Certainly not Marie Newman, a supposed Catholic, or Joe Biden, a supposed Catholic. That would just be wrong.

Intrinsic Evils: Always Evil, Never, Never, Never, Never, Never Good

Actions of intrinsic evil are always evil, always morally wrong, no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the intent of the persons doing the action. Intrinsically evil actions include torture, unjust war, racism, genocide, attacking noncombatants in war, s voluntarily engaging in homosexual actions, human trafficking, abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, deliberately redefining marriage in ways that violate its essential meaning, human cloning, in vitro fertilization, and the destruction of human embryos for research. For a detailed discussion of this in the context of voting see:  “Vote Democrat: Mortal Sin,” https://the-american-catholic.com/2022/09/13/vote-democrat-mortal-sin-update-i/.

Hierarchical Baloney Sausage

In the past, in political speeches from pulpits, in publications in various media,  and in veiled efforts to convince voters to vote for democrats and, implicitly,  not to vote for members of other parties (particularly the Republican Party), many clergy – including deacons, priests, pastors, bishops, archbishops, and cardinals – in the face of the democrat promotion of intrinsic evil, have spewed the moral and theological gibberish that catholics “are not single issue voters” or that every issue must be scrutinized against the backdrop of alleged “proportionate reasons.” There are no “proportionate reasons” that justify a catholic in voting for democrats who advocate for and promote actions of intrinsic evil, and who promise to do even more evil if elected. A single democrat issue, aim, goal, or previous success involving intrinsic evil cannot be ignored to justify a vote for a democrat or to vote against a candidate or party that a catholic despises. (For a satirical, yet true, treatment of this, see: “Voting Virtuously For Hitler,”   https://the-american-catholic.com/2024/01/18/voting-virtuously-for-hitler-faithful-citizenship/).

When you are dealing with the democrats and their supporters in the Catholic church and its hierarchy, never think it cannot get any worse.  The real reason not to think it can’t get any worse is that Satan and his devils want every soul in hell, and they never sleep. So if after a previous election cycle you think “That’s it, their diabolical depravities have hit hell bottom and there can now be nothing worse in the future,” think again. They will ALWAYS be pushing, promoting and seeking your tax money to fund some additional evil.

It is beyond irony that a large number of those clergy – at all levels up to princes of the church – who for many years tried to sway catholics to vote for democrats are now disgraced, in hiding, convicted of crimes, in jail, on probation, or in prison – or they have died and have been judged by Jesus, God the Son almighty.

Those priests, pastors, and prelates who have covered up the crimes of the ordained criminals and their clerical enablers within parishes and within the hierarchy have paid out billions of dollars of the money of the faithful to settle claims against the church, and they have almost always made diligent efforts to keep everything about the crimes and the settlements secret. The crimes of the overwhelming majority of these ordained sexual predator priests, bishops, and cardinals are based on their own intrinsically evil actions by which they injured, defiled, and in some cases destroyed, thousands of innocent victims worldwide, many of them children – some of these actions are actions which the democrats for decades have sought to legitimize and now to celebrate. Birds of a feather?

Here We Go Again in 2024

This present election cycle is no different.

The latest “what were gonna do when we come for you” announcement is their advocacy of, promotion of, and seeking taxpayer funding of diabolical transgendersim and demonic transhumanism.

I was going to say if a liberal, socialist, communist, Marxist, totalitarian,  and/or democrat priest, pastor, bishop, archbishop or cardinal says – with a straight face [pun intended] –  you can in good conscience vote for a democrat, run like hell [no pun intended].  But there is a better response, taken straight from Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals, the democrat holy scripture:   Ridicule them, laugh, laugh out loud, laugh publicly, because it is now clear, crystal, that the democrats are the party of death,  the party of darkness, the party of evil, and that many with earthly power in the Catholic Church support these political hellions. The priests, etc., know that, even if they are silent, this will mean votes for the democrats who espouse, promote, and seek taxpayer funding of actions in accord with a plethora of intrinsic evils whose aim here in this world in many cases is human death – mercy murder, abortion, genocide, assisted self murder, embryonic stem cell research  –  and whose diabolical  spiritual purpose is to usher as many souls as possible into Hell.

God help us for the 2026 election cycle. He’s God and were not and He has every reason to do another, American and worldwide, Sodom-and-Gomorrah cleansing.  Word to the wise: Don’t look back if He does. Keep on truckin’ toward the light and, especially, away from any priest or bishop who tries to even imply you can vote in good conscience for a democrat. And flee with all possible haste  from democrat darkness and death.

A problem with this otherwise quite accurate line of reasoning is that those who live in solidly democrat areas lose any of the small influence they might have. There are two sets of circumstances that I see would provide exceptions. Rarely, a pro-life democrat will run in a solid democrat district. A vote would establish that there is an opposing viewpoint to the official democrat platform no matter how few the number. The second circumstance would be voting for the weakest democrat in the primary in a split district and the Republican in the general election, assuming the Republican is better on life issues than the democrat. It goes back to the axiom that people of a world view can often sort out a method of dealing with evil when the righteous are concerned with the spiritual. Biggest problem arises when our spiritual leaders refuse to condemn members of their own flock who support evil. Those who are given great responsibility will be held tightly to greater standards (freely translated). Their souls are in the balance.

The devil is a finite creature who refuses to acknowledge his Creator. So it is with Democrats who refuse to represent their constituency. You want to belong to a gulag? Vote Democrat.

It doesn’t matter if your single vote will make a difference or not. That’s really not the point.

The point is that you cannot consciously support a person or a party who goes against the teaching of the Catholic Church. It’s about your responsibility as a person. There are no grey areas when it comes to matters of Life and human dignity.

We are all responsible for the ensuring the salvation of your soul and those entrusted in our care. We are all free to support who we want however with that comes responsibility to uphold the uncompromising Truth which Our Lord has emparted to us through His Church.

A reminder. You do what you can do. Oscar Schindler was honored for the 2300 or so Jews he saved. He was not condemned for the 6 Million he was unable to save. You can do nothing or you can use the system to reach part of the goal.

When my husband and I were newly married we were Florida residents. Because there were no Republicans on local election ballots we always voted for the most conservative Democrat. That was many, many years ago. Now with the Democrat Party platforms so full of pro-death, we believe it is morally wrong to vote Democrat.

“Because there were no Republicans on local election ballots we always voted for the most conservative Democrat. That was many, many years ago.”

That would, I believe, constitute an instance in which voting for a Democrat would be morally justified. In a LOCAL race in which there are no other viable candidates and the duties of the office wouldn’t have any impact on abortion, same-sex civil marriage or transgenderism policy — for example, someone running as a township road commissioner or member of a tiny village board — I could see where voting for a non-crazy leftist “traditional” (for lack of a better term) Democrat would be morally acceptable. “Traditional” Democrats still exist in places like central/southern Illinois, although they are an endangered species. However, I would not, at this point, vote for a Democrat for ANY federal or state office or for a school board that holds sway over education policy.

Cam and Elaine- in the case of the US where voting is not compulsory, would you simply not vote if no other option besides say the Democratic Party was an option?

In comparison, in the case of the Australia, where voting is compulsory and subject to fines if you do not vote, I would put a “dummy vote”- a smiley face on the ballot form which does not count as a vote. Simply put- Ai wouldn’t put my name to a bad candidate or less than ideal candidiate.

“I wouldn’t put my name to a bad candidate or less than ideal candidiate.”

Which is fine, but the way I see it, choosing the lesser of two or more evils is a part of life than cannot be avoided and simply leads to greater evils if you do try to avoid it. Refusing to vote for any candidate that is less than ideal simply allows the really bad candidates to win without a fight. Trump was not, and still is not, 100% perfectly pro-life, but he’s a heck of a lot better than the alternatives and I personally believe not voting for him because he wasn’t perfect would have been a huge mistake.

Bear in mind that an imperfect candidate, if elected, can make some progress toward protecting life (as Trump did appointing the justices who overturned Roe). There are also different degrees of support for abortion among pro-abortion candidates; for example, one might simply want abortion to remain legal and available while the other would aggressively attempt to revoke conscience protection laws for healthcare providers, shut down crisis pregnancy centers and criminalize pro-life protests. In that scenario, I am not going to sit back and let the second candidate win if I can help it.

I should emphasize that Catholic teaching, going back to Pope John Paul II’s Evangelium Vitae, states that it is morally acceptable to take either a no-compromise approach (never voting for any candidate that endorses abortion under any circumstances) or a “lesser evil” approach (voting for the least bad candidate when all candidates favor abortion to some extent). What is clearly condemned is voting for a pro-abortion candidate because you actively endorse their stand or because you don’t care how they stand.
