And the lack of these things are still what poverty looks like.
How many men would fast a week for a welcome like this!
As a bachelor teacher (now retired), I only had kids on loan, plus a half-dozen nephews and nieces. The author is quite correct.
A family is a blessing and a treasure. Tom – being unmarried is also a vocation in life if that’s what God chooses for you to be. Families need good uncles and schools need good teachers. And it seems you are both. Yours is no less than a married man. God Bless.

Psalm 127:3-5:
3
Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the sons of one’s youth.
5
Happy is the man who has
his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Sadly my first wife (a devout atheist) divorced me and took the children. I fought against it to no avail. Today both children are adults and they don’t communicate with me.
Yes, I remarried. Some of you have already heard the story; for those who haven’t, it’s a long story. I am well aware of Matthew 19:1-12, so let’s not go down that road here. I shall have to answer for my failures as you will for yours. Nevertheless, through my Filipina wife I have gained a new family with a new son and daughter, and new grandchildren. True, they aren’t biologically related, but nevertheless, this is what God has allowed me to have. So in a way, I feel like Job. Perhaps in a way, God let Satan take my old family from me, but He has given me a new one instead.
Folks, it’s not a perfect world. But I am richer than I was in the winter of 2007 when my “ex” took the kids and left me in a snow bank. And having been through heroin withdrawals in my youth, I can tell you that that was worse than withdrawals, but the Rosary saved me from returning to drinking and drugging.
I regret all my failures. I am grateful that God has nevertheless been merciful.
Don:
The bachelor teacher thanks you.

Tom I student taught at a middle school. Then I promptly ran off to law school because teaching was tough!
Amen.
That is what wealth looks like in any era, in any place.
