The whole mess: If PF had simply taken the usual course (for him) of keeping silent, the reprobates and progressives would have simply continued their usual ways instead of seemingly been given the opportunity to demonstrate their “loving concern.” The next Pontiff then would be free to issue whatever negative direction he wished restricting this obviously confusing situation and things would be less unsettled. As it is now, we do have what amounts to a confusion of practice that actually serves no one well.
