Litany of Humility

I asked God for strength that I might achieve, I was made weak, that I might learn to humbly obey.

I asked God for health, that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy, I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men, I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life, I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for – but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among men, most richly blessed.

The Prayer of the Confederate soldier is beautiful. I think I’ve read versions of it but was unaware of its origin.

These are difficult (sometimes impossible) things to live by. But somehow they give us a great peace when we are living them. I guess that’s what it means to die to oneself.

Matthew 11:29
Douay-Rheims Bible
Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

If we only learn one lesson and place it into our daily activities, may it be all of the above cardio therapy.

This post is by far us the most efficacious one ever written by TAC because it will change the world one soul at a time.

May we learn from our elder brother and King.

This Litany is a very “dangerous” prayer for those of us in the world who struggle not to be “of the world.” What I mean by dangerous is that if you pray it from the heart, you will find yourself tested rather quickly, and in a way that forces recognition of how difficult humility really can be. I speak from experience. 😉

Frank.

Challenging is an understatement in my opinion, but the love shared is forever.
I’m not as holy as I should be but without humility the road is a dead end. With it the road leads us to everlasting Life.

The rich young man walked away….

He had grown complacent and loved his treasures. The idea alone sent him back to his treasures.

Taking a risk for God is a Joy that reverberates throughout heaven.

That’s a relationship that’s worth the effort.

Frank is right. Back when I first got sober from drinking and drugging, my 12 step sponsor told me that God was always happy to answer a prayer for humility with plenty of opportunities to practice being humble. God still answers such prayers in the same way today.
