Trump at His Worst

Way to go Trump to convince us that you have never really cared about abortion.  Classic Trump:  I am the great negotiator, I can negotiate anything.  I will come up with a compromise that will make everyone happy on abortion.  He has bupkis people around him to tell him that these are idiot ideas and destructive to him politically.  When you specialize in sycophants and fire everyone with a spine this is what you get.

To be fair, his full answer is better, but still far from good, from a pro-life perspective:

How ironic. The president most instrumental in the overturning of Roe v. Wade (I give Bush the Elder and Younger credit for putting Thomas and Alito on the Court) would say this. I was always uneasy about pro-lifers getting too cozy with Trump.

Why are we even entertaining questions on a national abortion ban when it never get through and Congress and it’s being dubious at best on constitutional grounds given that abortion is a homicide and homicides are adjudicated at the state level?

This is the same Trump who was non committed on the idea of pulling federal funding from Worse than Murder Inc in 2016. So this is not all that shocking, sadly.

The negotiation will be predicated on the fact that God creates the rational soul in original innocence outside of time and man procreates the human body in time. “What God has joined together let no man put asunder” In original innocence, the rational soul is the standard of Justice for the nation. The rational human soul comes endowed with free will and sovereign personhood. The state does not create the rational human soul nor does the state endow sovereign personhood. Without God, we are lost.

I would say the country is mostly united on abortion–they are for it. Very few folks are for a total ban. The overwhelming majority want it available at some level for this or that reason.

Is he one of those that don’t understand the arguments? Such as, does he really believe that if a woman’s life is in danger that she first goes to the abortion clinic?!?

He should have said “this is not a federal issue. That’s what the Court held. The states are free to enact their own laws. I will strongly oppose and will veto any bill that purports to either ban or permit abortion at the federal level.” I of course disagree with anything but a complete ban, but it must be done at the state level, if at all. To me, Job One is for the pro-life movement to find a way to overcome the decades of propaganda with which the forces of the Enemy have saturated our culture. Step one is to end the society’s worship of sexual activity as the summum bonum.

I’m not sure I agree that it’s not a federal issue. At stake is the taking of an innocent human life.

If a state were to allow infanticide up to age 2, I think it would be a federal issue.

I wish I were speaking in hyperbole, but I think it’s close at hand in some of the more insane states.

And yes, I DO mean literally insane.

I think it’s simply the case that if you tell Trump the sky is blue, he will insist it’s green and fight you over it. It’s Trump being Trump. He runs his mouth. I’d be more inclined to judge his actions not his off-the-cuff blabber. So far his actions have fared well.

I’m not terribly surprised; just as the president who freed the slaves wasn’t a 100 percent lifelong committed abolitionist (he didn’t insist on freeing all slaves immediately, he wanted slavery to not expand to new territories), the president who got Roe overturned wasn’t a 100 percent committed pro-lifer.

Didn’t Trump say after Roe vs Wade was shot down by the Supreme Court that “abortion legislation is up to the states”.

I agree with Frank’s comments.

The 2024 election is Trump’s to lose. In office he was the most pro-life president ever. Who is he listening to now?
