This has little to do with Trump and everything to do with the fact that politics is now a blood sport and will remain so for the foreseeable future. We are beyond a great turning point in the life of our Republic and I fear there is no going back.

There is an historical novel by Rosemary Sutcliffe, set in the the last fading sunset of Roman Britain. It is titled “The Lantern Bearers”. In it, one of the characters says words to the effect thst “We must be the lantern bearers, carrying what light we may into the coming darkness.” I pray that God will grant me the grace and strength to be such in what I see coming.
Politics has decayed into a blood sport because the people drawn to be active in the Democratic Party cannot conceive of themselves as participants in competition and argument and their voters will not disabuse them of their illusions.
The question (Don and Art) is the provocation calculated or just plain stupid, like the cartoon character poking the lion until it bites him? From where I sit (just south of San Francisco) the lib-clowns have no idea what they’re doing.
Orwell said it best: “So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don’t even know that fire is hot.”
I think the turning point has become the loving to hate outlook that has prevailed from publicized coverage of countless travesties and behaviors of the governing, public figures, and activist educators, social wrkrs., psychologists, leaders and artists. The future of the young without independent minds, only passions, will tell.
If we could quantify the amount of money made through demagoguery in this country, we’d have a good idea as to why the downward spiral continues.
The attacks are so obviously coordinated that only the dumbest could fail to see it. Which is to say that about 60% of the country will catch on.
Unfortunately there is a class of people who will watch each new indictment and think “are they really going to do it? It’s a fair trial, so surely there is a chance that they might NOT indict him! Oh wow, they did?!? And the newsman says that this was unprecedented and can only be due to how evil Trump is!!”
I realize that it’s impossible to read the hypothetical quote without the air of sarcasm, but there are many people who follow the news thinking such things sincerely.
