The altar server is looking up… that’s all. He is in very deep contemplation.
So deep, indeed, that he’s in awe. Hence the mouth slightly open.
Almost in ecstasy.

We used to have 7th graders paired up with kindergarteners at Mass: to teach the little kids proper responses and reduce chatter in the pews. One of my 7th grade boys was alarmed that his buddy had leaned against him and fallen asleep (as little people will due late morning). I told him: “Don’t worry: she’s only missing Father’s sermon. Wake her for the Creed.”
