"If we get further away from the Sun it gets cooler, and if we get closer to the Sun it gets warmer. No legislation, from Canberra or from the UN, can change the orbit of the Earth." Ian Plimer

Junk science used to promote the climate change agenda of complete government control of the economy and of everything else. (Eat bugs! Own nothing! Be happy as a State serf!) Green on the outside, red within. The perversion of science for political purposes is the most alarming development.
I sometimes fear that this Churchill quote may still be prophetic:
But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.
Coming generations who seem to desire, with honorable exceptions, to be taken care of like pets may get us there.
The quote is not apt…it’s not how close you are to the sun, but the length of the day and the angle the sun’s rays make with the vertical. that’s what causes seasons. And add chaos theory, the Australian butterfly batting its wings that (sometimes, but not all) causes a tornado in Kansas.
At the center of all these lies is the willing promotion by a duplicitous press. It almost makes you wish that you could modify Shakespeare’s line in Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2, by Dick the Butcher (often misunderstood): “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the [lawyers] journalists.” The many problems we have would be a significantly smaller problem if there was a shred of honesty in the corporate media in the West which has become just another paid organ of their governmental and leftist overlords. The Founders obviously intended the press to be something different, protecting the rights of the people rather than propagandizing them. But this is nothing new. “Our printers raven on the agonies of their victims, as wolves do on the blood of the lamb.” (Jefferson to Monroe in 1811) And “As vehicles of information and a curb on our functionaries, they have rendered themselves useless by forfeiting all title to belief… This has, in a great degree, been produced by the violence and malignity of party spirit.” (Jefferson to Walter Jones in 1814). Fake news indeed.
All one can do is focus on Truth (capital T/John 14:6 Truth). “Since truth and reason have maintained their ground against false opinions in league with false facts, the press confined to truth needs no other legal restraint. The public judgment will correct false reasonings and opinions on a full hearing of all parties, and no other definite line can be drawn between the inestimable liberty of the press and its demoralizing licentiousness.” (Jefferson’s 2d Inaugural). [Insert Trump here] In an earlier letter Jefferson notes “…the press is impotent when it abandons itself to falsehood, I leave to others to restore it to its strength by recalling it within the pale of truth.” (Jefferson to Thomas Seymour in 1807) Keep up the good work Don!
The older I get the more central focusing on the Truth has become probably maybe because we’re surrounded by so many egregious lies. I’d have more respect for Rod Dreher if he had remained Catholic (although the current pontificate certainly makes it much easier to understand why he left), but he has a point when he encourages us to “Live not by Lies.”
Coming generations who seem to desire, with honorable exceptions, to be taken care of like pets may get us there.
Not a fair description of the younger generations in our families. You do see a great deal of unseriousness. They’re impervious in this regard.
It’s The Guardian, so what does anybody expect?
The East Coast of Australia was hammered with non-stop rain for months between 2020-2022, as a result of El Nina– the cool phase of the eastern Pacific Ocean, which typically brings rain and floods to Australia on the ocean’s warmer western edge.

Previously in 2016-2019, Australia (particular the East Coast) was in drought because of El Niño. Typically there were fires and water restrictions.
This extreme shift in weather been like this for as long as I remember.
It has nothing to do with whether we use plastic shopping bags or plastic straws or whether we are filling up our cars with petrol or turning on the AC at home. It will continue that way long after we are gone.
Btw, our current Labor PM is happily gallivanting to every international meet up and event since he came into power- on climate altering, fuel-guzzling private planes preaching to us and cow-towing to every international climate initiative. This- whilst out electricity prices have gone up by a third and the cost of living is increasing the number of struggling families by the day who are living on the verge of poverty.

I recall when we had uproar about CFCs in antifreeze creating an ozone hole. Nobody ever explained how a chemical used most in the US and Europe managed to create a problem over Antarctica, not Greenland.
John I recall CFC’s and holes in the Ozone layer being blamed for increased cases of skin cancer where I live. Only later did they blame UV rays. Well- um we are known as “the sunburnt country, a land of sweeping planes..” and we are meant to love that about our country…well we used to love it until the doomsday nut jobs started the fear campaigns.
They will say everything and anything to bang the climate Armageddon drum.
