As the character Detective Wojohowitz from the sitcom Barney Miller once said, “ Honesty’s the best policy. But insanity’s a better defense.”
Speaking of Barney Miller fun facts: Max Gail and Hal Linden are still alive at age 80 and age 92 respectively. They’ve each had a screen credit in the last couple of years. Barbara Barrie (“Mrs. Miller”) is also still alive at age 92; her most recent screen credit was in 2018.
Loved that show. One of the best written ensemble sitcoms. I do regret my increasing resemblance to Inspector Luger as the years pass:
Ah, Barney Miller. We own the entire series on DVD, and it is still being shown on, I believe, AntennaTV. Early in my legal career, I had an assistant whose husband was employed as a psychological counselor by the St. Louis Police Department. He once opined that Barney Miller was the most realistic of all the cop shows, of which there were many at that time. It certainly was entertaining, if occasionally a bit preachy, and of course always from the left side of things. But that didn’t completely ruin the sharp comedy and the marvelous character development displayed over the course of the show. The three-episode finale still ranks in my opinion as the best series wrap-up I have seen, with Linden himself turning out the lights as he leaves “the old One Two” for the last time.

Ha.
My Abe Vigoda look is coming soon.
[I hope his wit comes with it.]
Fish was one of my favorite characters in the show. Always filled with good one liners as i recall.
Peace.
