And my son paid off his 60k in student loans in just over two years by throwing every cent he earned against his student loans.

Is she the one that bought that million dollar property in NY when he first suspended them w hopes of canceling? Yeah, THATS the reason I’m very against it. They can afford to pay it back.
They should require anyone accepting a student loan to take a basic economics class.
@Cag: not economics but banking/accounting, with a very stiff side order of Dave Ramsey
A friend, student loan officer for decades, said that almost every high school senior they counseled, in depth, clearly, often, simply could not and did not understand that it was a “loan.” At some point when it hit home that they had to pay it back, they are in “deer in the headlights” disbelief. Not to worry Don, no doubt in their many schemes and plots to buy the votes of those who have not entered the US illegally, someday your son and all those who had student loans will get reparations from everyone who worked their way thru college. Obama’s Secretary of Labor, Thomas Perez, admitted he’d gone to law school because he was bad at math.
Note, if the Wiki biography of her is accurate, she’s hardly practiced law. One short-term political job after another, plus a stint i the state legislature.
This is her husband.

I’m going to wager his earned income is somewhat irregular.
She married fairly late in life (at 33) and at 37 she has no children.
She’s the granddaughter of Mario Biaggi, one-time member of Congress from the Bronx. Biaggi left office in disgrace and spent two years in prison, but for some reason his brand is still beneficial. (Her politics are standard-issue you-go-girl progtrashery, unlike her gf).
I’m going to note something else. About 60% of the youths who enroll in baccalaureate-granting schools attend public institutions in-state. All of her schooling was at private institutions and a portion of it was out of state as well. She obtained a teaching certificate she’s never used and a law degree she’s hardly used.
I’m viscerally sympathetic to her (pretty girl privilege), but it seems as if her avocation is to stand there and pump bullets into her feet.
They should require anyone accepting a student loan to take a basic economics class.
Not a waste of time, but it’s an absence of mathematical and financial knowledge, not economics, which is her problem. What she actually needed was for her daddy to run the numbers for her and counsel her accordingly. Something broke down there.
One other thing. IIRC, outstanding loan balances in 2012 were around $45,000 per borrower.

IIRC, there was a line in the film Rebecca where Joan Fontaine says she wished she were 34 years old in basic black and pearls and Lawrence Olivier looks at her and insists she promise never to be 34 years old in basic black and pearls. Have a listen to Alessandra Biaggi, chronological age 36. She’ll never be 34 years old in the way my mother was 34 years old.
Another pet peeve. Alessandra Biaggi, who has spent 90% of her life in greater New York has no regional accent. They’re all manifestations of national humbug culture they pick up courtesy higher education.
