Requiescat In Pace: Alan Arkin

Dead at age 89.  The ultimate versatile actor, equally at home in both comedy and drama.  Two of his roles that were among my favorite:

As far as I can tell he usually kept his opinions to himself, and let his performances do all his talking.  May he be answering a casting call in the life to come.

I enjoyed his work.
The character he played in Little Miss Sunshine was a hoot.
I will place him in my prayers this morning.

Philip- Little Miss Sunshine is a favourite also. He was always that actor that appeared in so many movies, yet never truly had the headline star power. He was the ultimate supporting actor. Yet he created a very long and successful career. Rest in Eternal Peace Alan.

We got a big screen set up for movies a couple Christmases ago. I also bought Wait Until Dark that year. We watched it on the big screen along with our soon to be daughter-in-law. Nobody else had ever seen it. When Arkin leaped out after Audrey Hepburn near the end of the film, everyone in the room jumped. Arkin was always a pleasure to watch. He was great in Argo (a movie we recently rewatched). He appeared to be a witty fellow off screen as well. I recall him saying something about his role in Wait Until Dark and not getting an Oscar. He said nobody gets an Oscar for terrorizing Audrey Hepburn.

Agreed on Argo.
My first remembrance of him was in Catch-22, Capt. John Yossarian.
Military intelligence! …oh yeah.

He was great in “The Fourth Wise Man,” with Martin Sheen. Charlie Sheen and Adam Arkin had cameos also.

“The In-Laws” with Peter Falk is one of the all-time great comedies. His understated, just-a-step-behind comedic timing was brilliant.

His definition of God is mistaken. The universe is not God.God is transcendent. The universe is something that God made.
