Thought For The Day

That is a violation by the Federal government of freedom of speech guaranteed in the First Amendment.  The FBI cannot be reformed.  It can only be destroyed and replaced.

I don’t know if I want it replaced really.

Without being able to discern the cancer from the healthy tissue, anything we build as a replacement could easily be as bad or worse

Who says we can’t discern the difference?

Well, if we can discern the difference, then the Bureau wouldn’t need to be ‘destroyed and replaced’, it could conceivably be reformed. Just out with the bad and in with the good, right?

In other news Zelensky has threatened Musk if he doesn’t take down Tucker’s page.
🤔
Maybe re reforming FBI. Will need to tear down building and put holy salt on the rubble first (same should be done to CDC)

“Destroy and build anew.”
Totally agree. The Bureau now is like the Jesuits. An organization so thoroughly corrupted from its original purpose can only be dismantled, not reformed.

Zelensky has threatened Musk if he doesn’t take down Tucker’s page.*

That’s a laugh! Maybe Musk can compromise and just turn off the Starlink network over Ukraine, so Zelenskyy won’t have to see it
😀

The FBI waged war against Trump during his entire administration. They have shielded Biden. They are waging war against the pro-life movement. Destroy and build anew.

Oh, I agree … I just wouldn’t want the US cut off its nose to spite its face. I have to hope that the majority of agents are not in cahoots with the Überlibs. Rebuilding all the structures necessary for such an agency to function would take some time, and open a pretty huge window of vulnerability while they’re being put in place.

IMO, you might begin to repair matters if you removed salaried line employees in Washington and the management level employees elsewhere. IIRC, the raid on Mar a Lago was run out of Washington rather than the local office in Miami.

The federal penal code is too verbose and the sentencing schedule is rather more severe than those of state penal codes. One thing you can do to curb abuses is to reduce the remit of federal officials generally.

Grand juries do not provide a check on prosecutors and prosecutors are not sanctioned even for the grossest sort of misconduct. The FBI plugs into this odious system. You need to do something to contain the abuses of federal judges and prosecutors.

Another curio is the Department of Justice. At the state and local level, legal representation of the government is almost never conflated with investigatory and patrol functions. At the same time, the Bush administration and Congress assembled a mess of agencies variously devoted to intelligence collection, policing, and civil defense in DHS. These are both bad departments which deserve to be replaced with departments with a more circumscribed function.

As for the FBI, we can get along with out and omnibus police service staffed by JD’s. Break it up into a dozen successor bureaux scattered over about four departments. Hire cops to work in the bureaux, not lawyers.

And can some Republican Congress get to work on fixing the recruitment, promotion, and disciplinary system in the federal government?

One other thing. Ultimately, government is people. You’ve got to take down the names of individual agents responsible for these shenanigans and ban them from federal employment. Ditto federal prosecutors.
