Band of Brothers

Something for the weekend.  Theme song for Band of Brothers.  I have been re-watching this.  Hard to believe the miniseries is 23 years in the rear view mirror.  Back then the men were in their seventies.  The youngest now, if any are still around, would be in their late nineties.  Soon the Great Crusade, as Eisenhower called it, will slip from human memory.  Sad but inevitable.

Bonus:

Language advisory as to the video.  I can attest that the little ditty in the clip was still being sung in the Army back in the seventies.

My brother is one of the few men to take Airborne training twice.  The first time he broke an arm on one of the jumps.  When he showed up the second time, one of the instructors said that he was either very brave or very stupid, and he was betting on stupid!  In any case my brother got his jump wings.  (And no, I didn’t do it.  As I told my brother, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane I would leave to him.)

There are none left alive from Easy Company. The last one died last year and he was 96.

On a somewhat related topic..last weekend I took my 11 year old son to DC to watch the Pirates and Nationals play. The Pirates won. We stopped at Arlington National Cemetery on the way home, as it is not far from Nationals Park. We did see the last Changing of the Guard for the day.
I have been to two funeral services of family members at ANC. One was a Marine Corps Lt. Colonel. I have one other relative who is qualified to be buried at ANC if it is what he wants.
If anyone who posts or reads here has the chance, go see ANC. Just go. There are tour buses available, which is helphul for little kids and older people (ANC is NOT flat, the walk to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is all uphill). If you go dutrng the week you will see funetal serviceds. There is always noise from jets at nearby National Airport, so it is not very quiet. That and VA Route 110 goes right by ANC.
A nyway, just go see.
