Given how little Ukraine likes this pontiff, I suspect he’s simply playing to type and sticking to his habit of sidling up to the strongman. Ukraine is as important to him as Chinese Catholics are.
Facts are clearly not important. Lip service, however, is important. I hate people who throw words around thinking that facts and the truth don’t matter.

Agreed. Sadly, that description seems to fit many, if not most, of our bishops, including the Bishop of Rome, as well as most Western government functionaries with any sort of public exposure. Difficult times.
