Mouse Rip Off

I am pleased to say that my Bride and I never took our kids to Disney World.  We had better uses for our money and our vacation time.

FWIW, Disney used to run pretty decent movies on Sunday nights when I was a boy–mid- to late 80s. Later, my college show choir performed at Disney World (spring 1995); we visited Disneyland the year before. I enjoyed both. I recall being mildly shocked to learn of Gay Pride days during fall 1995. If they’ve never been explicitly “Catholic-friendly”, they had not been baldly, publicly, morally derelict either. Sad changes came about during the 90s, it seems.

Nothing against Disney as it was prior to Michael Eisner’s reign.

Aside from the promotion of homosexuality, Disney has a history as a seeker of official favors. The peculiar features of the special district authority in which Disney World is located may have had some justification in 1963 when they broke ground, but the population of Orange County, Fl has grown 5-fold in the intervening decades. The Disney complex should long have been made subject to the tax and regulatory dispensations applying to other businesses in Florida. You’ll recall that Disney also successfully obtained an extension on copyright protections for some of its intellectual property back about 25 years ago. They should have been told that you get the same 75 years that Irving Berlin and everyone else got, suck it up.

I’m not sure there’s been a time in American history when neglect of fiduciary duty has been so prevalent and manifest. Here you have Disney’s brand being wrecked consequent to the personal shticks of Robert Iger, Iger and his predecessor have also allow sexual deviants to accumulate in gatekeeper positions in the company. Homosexuals get to a critical mass in an organization and they behave like parasitoid wasps. Some outre figure like John Derbyshire will point this out, but almost no one else does.

We have dear friends whose daughter is employed by Disney on their cruise ships. I’d love to see the company restored to health. I suspect that’s going to require a corporate raider who cans Iger and does the equivalent of an Elon-musk style purge of their line management, HR department, and corporate communications.

In Disney’s case, the CEO Iger has made it clear he’s responsible for the corporation’s decay. With this sort of thing, you never quite know if it’s official policy or its some woke-tard in the apparat freebooting. Some commercial companies made use of blacklists drawn up by the $PLC, apparently unaware (or indifferent) to the fact that it had been exposed as a skeevy direct mail mill by local papers in Montgomery, Alabama in 1995, a finding seconded by Harper’s magazine five yars later.

A third possibility is regulatory agencies leaning on banks to harass disfavored customers. The person at Wells Fargo who insisted the account of the wife of Gen. Michael Flynn be closed and she be given a nonsense explanation has not to my knowledge been identified nor given an accounting of his conduct.
