Well…
Burn of the day…
Ouch.
God’s mercy is unfathomable and he knows hearts better than man. The gruesome murders seem to me to be unforgivable, but I’m not God.
Burn of the day?
He said; You have to forgive me to heal and move on.
As impossible as that sounds he is absolutely right. That scar is deep and only God can heal those wounds, yet when someone does the unimaginable a healing is applied, and the Lord of healing repairs the heart.
That unimaginable forgiveness is an act of will that moves the heart of God and reduces the burn to a balm of the day.
And in Seattle, a certain person is fuming about how the death penalty is so barbaric…
While there is certainly room for abuse in the death penalty, there is something to be said for the effect of knowing your date of departure and having to deal with that. I think it forces contemplation of one’s actions in a way that a lifetime in prison does not. It sounds like the man has prepared to meet his maker as well as he knows how. God’s mercy and justice be done.
If the death penalty brings a person to that sort of repentance and remorse then it’s done it’s job. A lifetime of prison won’t necessarily do that. Not to mention not having to manage the mess that comes with holding the worst of criminals in prison- housing them, clothing them and feeding them. And managing prisoner on prisoner violence, prison drug abuse etc…He’s right about one thing- that is to forgive for themselves not to relinquish what he did.
