Dignity in the Face of Evil

I’ve been following the pictures of murder victims at Auschwitz, and one thing that has struck me is the dignity of most of them for their “mug shots”.  By this time they had no illusions about what was going to happen to them, but most of them showed no fear and occasionally they showed defiance.  Evil in this Vale of Tears too often looms black and large on our paths.  The power of evil can sometimes destroy our mortal lives, but it can never touch our souls, unless we allow it to.  In the face of powerful evil, we must remember who we are and Whose we are.

When visiting Marytown in Libertyville IL, I would make my way to the lower level where the friars had a museum of sorts, of St. Kolbe’s time spent in Auschwitz. Mounted on one of the walls, mug shots of future martyrs. It was the children’s faces that sent shivers down my spine. They were frightened beyond measure and it was heartbreaking to think of their time in that camp.

While Antifa are celebrated and the call to defund police departments is not a distant reality, i suppose that it’s a good reminder for us, to recall our true origins and whom we belong too. I wouldn’t sleep well knowing that the future might have our loved ones mug shots from a re-education camp established by the godless society that is power at the moment.

Is that time close?

Antifa.
Anti fascist. [?]

Hitler had his anti fascists too.
They did a remarkable job cleaning out the Jews and undesirables.

My dad worked in Cleveland for 29 years. In his customer service office, there were two felliws that, like my dad, were from Western Pennsylvania. One co worker was born in Auschwitz. He and his mother came to the US un the displaced persons program.
