Historical illiteracy is right up there with Biblical illiteracy. Most Millennials have neither, but they can tell you how far the letters should extend for the alphabet soup group.

… But they have no problem forming strong opinions on both. It’s amazing how “un-Christian” biblical morality is viewed these days.
Something to consider is HOW the historical and Biblical illiteracy came about. People born through about the 80’s will understand at least the basics of US history and Biblical knowledge (ex. understanding of the Revolutionary, Civil and World wars, expansion to the west, etc. on the US side, and knowledge of figures like Joseph, Moses, David, Jesus and Paul on the Biblical side.) But those born in the 90’s have at best shaky knowledge in these areas and those born in the 00’s have practically none.
Until we come to grips with why that happened, we won’t fix things.
The question is not well phased. People may be thinking that it means “How many presidents led troops into combat as president” rather than “How many presidents had military service”. The first list would be just Washington (Whiskey Rebellion) and Monroe (War of 1812), i think.

Guys, Millennials are in our 40, now, and in spite of being abandoned to public schools have frequently self-educated to equal or greater knowledge than X and even some Boomers.
No thanks to the nags who want to complain about Kids These Days; youtube and podcasts did the heavy lifting, just like Catholic Answers and EWTN picked up the folks whose education was dropped by their parents and grandparents.
I’ve had arguments on basic Biblical literacy with Boomer relatives that would make your hair curl; the tradition of pounding the table when you’ve got nothing else to go on is alive and well, sadly!
Monroe was a teenager when he served in the army of the Revolutionary War. He served as the Secretary of the War and at the same time the Secretary of State under President Madison during the War of 1812.
The house where Monroe was born was rebuilt about 2 years ago on the actual site. It is a true replica using etchings and foundation excavations with advice from Colonial Williamsburg and drvoted volunteers. There is a small but nice museum/gift shop not visible from the house and a concrete timeline that extends to Monroe Bay. Monroe’s bio is worth the read.
