“Disappointments” is being kind. The linked article reminded me of the fact that Cardinal Sarah claimed Pope Benedict was a co-author of his book and then Pope Benedict denied it. How sad that you couldn’t even trust the so-called conservatives in the Church when things got a little uneasy under Francis. Seriously, the number of faithful Bishops is a lot less than I ever imagined. Francis, like Trump, has been an instrument of exposing the fakes, but for different reasons. I will never forget the near unanimity of Bishops in shutting down Mass attendance. And now they want to waste millions on some p.r. campaign for Eucharistic revival? How about publicly repenting over denying access to the Blessed Sacrament because you were too scared for your own earthly existence. There were plenty of young priests who would have happily held Mass for those who were willing to go. Not just disappointing, disgusting too.
Amen, FOS. The instantaneous surrender of the bishops without even so much as a pro forma protest was the most disappointing thing to me of the entire Covid insanity, once you get past the willful murder of old people in nursing homes. Which, I might add, I don’t recall any bishop ever publicly decrying when it happened in his diocese. I could be wrong about that last, haven’t tried to look it up.
Since modern precent has been set with Pope Benedict’s resignation, there should probably be some protocols set for future events of this nature. I am not speaking of rules in the form of canon law but some sort of guidelines would probably be useful.
Cardinal Pell has died. 😢
After how the American bishops ignored Pope Saint John Paul II on child abuse and laicizing the criminals, Benedict XVI saw that speaking out was a waste of his breath. Is that a surprise?
Cardinal Sarah learned from Benedict.
RIP Cardinal Pell. Your response to atheists was breathtaking.
Agree Mary. His responses, even in interviews, were thoughtful
and measured. He was an intelligent man. He was also a holy man who had complete conviction and trust in the Lord.
