Leftist corporations can learn to deal with the demands imposed by Democrats without the traditional protection afforded by Republicans. There is a consequence for playing stupid woke political games. This works morally and politically, since carrying water for big corporations is a losing proposition on both grounds.
The man is 61 years old. Capsule biographies indicate he grew up in a small town in Kentucky. Kroger’s HQ is in Cincy.
He was clearly aware of the whole mise en scene if not that particular case and sat there trying to defend it, offering not one note of regret that two employees were gratuitously abused for thinking the store should just stay in its lane and not compel speech from employees. You’d think it would have occurred to him that the vociferously ‘inclusive’ are engaged in including some people and excluding others. The hooey about ‘feeding the human spirit’ was cute. (Kroger intermediates between wholesale distributors and customers and that’s it). The injection of homosexual symbology into the daily business of setting up inventory on display is absurd. There was a corps of ‘activists’ in the company pushing it and no one pointing out that it was gratuitous and silly (or, the person who pointed it out was fired).
By the way, they wear identification tags as a matter of course.
The employees were fired for placing the name tag on the right side facing the customer and not the left side.
My employer is on the same LBGT bandwagon. It still amazes me that such a small subset of people have managed to get their own damn way on everything they demand in the public square. It seems nobody has the guts to tell them off.
Kroger pulled out of Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania in the early 1980s. It was a few years after A&P had closed down in the same regions.
I took a look at the Wikipedia page for Kroger. It is a MASSIVE privately held company. They have operations in 35 states and could likely buy and sell any competitor they wanted to.
Did the CEO know about the lawsuit? Kroger probably has a number of lawsuits filed against it at any time all over the country. FWIW, a company this size – it probably is bigger than most countries – could blow off anybody who showed up at a board meeting demanding attention.
Disclaimer – I do shop at the Kroger stores either in Wheeling, WV or Weirton, WV. Milk and gas are a lot cheaper in West Virginia and if they have a special on meat…or anything else that Giant Eagle wants to gouge me on…well, I have a 14 year old.

I’d point out that leftoids were contemptuous of and hostile to Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby for (1) offsite political contributions by company shareholders and executives and (2) certain policies followed in deference to Christian principles, like closing on Sunday and not including abortion coverage in the company health plan.

The CEO professed to know nothing about this particular suit. He knew perfectly well about the propagation of woke ideology in Kroger and defended their witless ‘allyship’ guide. Again, he is a witting tool in the diversion of resources at Kroger from the company’s foundational purpose to the propagation of the agenda of a scheming coterie of middle managers. The retired corporation lawyer who posts here has said in his company, the C-suite was not listening to the legal department and the woke lobby was operating out of HR and corporate communications. The communications director at Kroger is 37 years old and, among her other activities, is vice chair of ‘diversity & inclusion’ for the Junior League of Cincinnati.
