The faithful are tired of change and would like to rest in peace with the traditions to which they are accustomed.Change for the sake of change is an empty gong.
My husband and I attend an Eastern Rite Church, and this past Sunday was a celebration of The Seventh Council (Nicaea II, 787 AD)
.
In the bulletin was a write-up of the Seven Councils of the first millennium. The hand-out says “The West continue[s] to call its general synods Ecumenical Councils…”
.
I am going to assume this is a subtle (or not so) dig at Vatican I and Vatican II. I have no idea what this particular Church calls the Synod on Synodality and how much doctrinal weight it is to be given going forward. We do/did participate in it and our parish had a couple of sessions. There is information on the Eparchy’s website (our bishop was appointed by Pope Francis, and I assume he is more or less supportive of the Pope).
.
At the parish level, it seems to be done and we’ve moved on, as if it’s just a Roman/Western Church thing that does not really have anything to do with us.
