Diversity Was Sweden’s Strength

And some commentators are mystified why the Social Democrat Party government was voted out, and the populist Swedish Democrats will form part of the new center-right government.  Crime and immigration were the major issues in the election.  You do the math.

Note, constitutional provisions in Sweden do not allow naturalized citizens to be stripped of their citizenship and deported if they are convicted of crimes. (If I’m understanding the provisions correctly, the children born to aliens remain aliens, which is an an improvement on American practice). Ideally, an amendment would provide for a pathway for prosecutors to petition the courts to revoke and deport. The trouble is, it’s doubtful the leftoid parties would ever agree to that and constitutional amendments rightly require supermajorities and cross-party co-operation.

Note, Sweden’s prison census is small – less than 5,000 in a population of 10 million. At the same time, they have a history of extraordinarily high rates of child seizures under their child protective code (which, among other things, debars parents from using corporal punishment); writing some years ago, Lynette Burrows reported that researchers had determined that the rate of child seizures in Sweden exceeded that in the US and Germany by more than 20-fold. In effect, the place has been a social worker state where ordinary people are treated as pathological and where criminals are mollycoddled. (Note, her de har ‘human rights’ lobbies like shAmensty International pay no attention to this sort of thing).
