More manhood than most male Spanish conservatives these days display. The Spanish Civil War was an immense blood letting, and almost all elements of Spanish society had blood stained hands. The myth of the contemporary Left that Leftists in that conflict were all innocent victims fighting for democracy is a crime against History. Franco after the Civil War oversaw immense executions of Leftists. He commuted about fifty percent of the death sentences. The American ambassador came to him one day complaining about the executions. Franco began reading a list of crimes that some of the individuals whose death sentences he had been reviewing had been found guilty of. The ambassador conceded that those individuals would have been given the death penalty in the US. Franco paused and said he was reading the offenses of people whose death sentences he had just commuted. Black hats and white hats were in short supply in that conflict and to pretend otherwise is obscene.

“The ambassador conceded that those individuals would have been given the death penalty in the US.”
Not today they wouldn’t.
Depends upon the State.
North of 6800, almost all of whom died with great courage, many praying for their murderers. Apostasy in the face of such terror was almost unknown.
The Red Terror claimed at least 50,000 lives in the Spanish Republic.
Given the ludicrous “historical memory” law the left passed in Spain a couple years back, good on her for ramming it in their faces.

Well, even the more pro-death penalty states are hardly whacking murderers by the bushel.
“ Well, even the more pro-death penalty states are hardly whacking murderers by the bushel.”
There have never been a lot of them in recent memory, but if I had to guess, I would say that Soros-backed prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty even when they bother prosecuting murderers. That might have an impact on overall numbers.
