One of the great barristers of his time and author of a multi-volume history of the Hundred’s Year’s War which I have read with delight. He is correct that the Covid pattern has set a chilling example of how the freedoms of Western democracies can be turned into less than nothing over night.
My understanding is that the (D) Governor of Washington state still invokes his emergency powers to enact laws by decree. It’s been 900+ days since that state first gave Governor Inslee his ‘temporary’ powers. And Inslee is not the only Governor who clung to those ‘temporary’ powers long, long after their sell-by date.
I can understand giving the executive branch emergency powers when there’s been a disaster and swift action is essential. But ruling by fiat after 2 1/2 years is nakedly subverting the voice of the citizens. It’s un-American. That so many governors have been so reluctant to let go of their ‘emergency’ powers is disturbing.
That so many people would expect governors and Fauci-types to give up their emergency power/ authority is an indictment of our nation’s history teachers.
