PopeWatch: Zanchetta

Damian Thompson gives us the details of the lengths the Pope went do defend his abusing side kick Bishop Gustavo Zanchetta:

When it was clear that Zanchetta was heading for a prison sentence, the Vatican finally conducted a canonical investigation into his behaviour, to see what penalties he might have incurred under church law. The proceedings were kept secret. The Argentine court asked to see the findings and was ignored. Now, to quote the veteran Vatican correspondent Christopher Altieri:

“Pope Francis has sent the canon lawyer who represented his friend and former colleague Gustavo Zanchetta (a convicted sex offender serving time in prison), to investigate some of the very clerics who denounced their erstwhile bishop to the Vatican and testified against him”.

Dr Javier Belda Iniesta, who defended Zanchetta in a process whose outcome was never revealed, is now investigating the people who blew the whistle on this abuser.

Go here to read the rest.  Justice is a meaningless concept to our Pope.  The only question he has is whether you are on his side or oppose him.

I oppose his actions and leadership.
I do however pray for him.
A soul is God’s and a chance for conversion always exists if the door is open.

Btw… .off topic…i know, how surprising right?

Olivia Newton-John passed away yesterday. Just incase you wanted to pray for her soul.
Thank you Sir.

Chicago politics now govern the Holy See. Been that way for a while, now. Say, since about March of 2013. And thanks for your reminders, Philip, that we must continue praying for all of these false shepherds, not to mention the souls they are leading astray or simply neglecting, which is nearly as bad. And RIP, Ms Newton John.

SOP for this Pope. He defended Barros until he couldn’t anymore, then he sent hatchet man Scicluna to conduct a purge of the Chilean episcopacy. A 2-month investigation, 2300-page report (that no one other than Francis has ever seen), 34 resignations. Contrast that with 2-year + investigation of McKerrick which produced a practically empty report. Oh well, Scicluna got out of the dog house with that one and got a miter for his efforts

RIP Olivia Newton John. Praying for her soul. A lady who showed how to suffer with dignity. Always a smile on her face. An Australian treasure.

The Pope needs prayers too. There’s some deep seated politics and rot going on and I suspect we only know a tip of the truth.

Once again, how (but for the grace of God) can one ever hope to convert a person of reason into this Church since they first have to get by these Roman and hierarchal antics to pay enough attention to learn the spiritual beauty within?

Don L.

A better question..possibly;

How on Earth did the Catholic Church ever thrive for the two thousand plus years it’s been in existence knowing that mere men were in positions that were far above their competence and talents?

God is in control…that why.

We will have growth where we may least expect it.

Remember Mexico during the reformation period in Europe.

Our Lady of Guadeloupe…pray for us.

Queen Kristina of Sweden’s comment (paraphrased) upon her conversion: “The Church must be God’s work to have survived all the bad people who have authority over it.” And Boccaccio’s tale of the Jew who went to Rome, and came back seeking conversion (same message as Queen Kristina’s).

Don L- you could ask the same question about the USA- why would anyone ever want to move to a country and adopt the way of life when there is a government which has someone like Joe Biden in charge? Well, they would because it goes deeper than the whoever the leader of the day is. It’s the principles and values which the nation embodies. So too, the people will come to the Church for Christ- which has His sacraments, His real presence and His protection. The leadership is just a side and always temporary- good or bad. And thank Our Lord for that.

The Wisdom Of Fulton Sheen, “Who is going to save the Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops, and your religious like religious.”

I know next to nothing about Bishop Zanchetta.

I have been on a jury. I know well intentioned jurors get verdicts wrong.

I also know legal systems can function corruptly.

That’s all I have to say.
