No Joke

The IRS has always been difficult getting in touch with.  Due to Covid and “remote working” it is almost impossible.  Last year it took them over a year to process my tax return with almost no changes, and the changes they made were in my favor.  This year it took them over five months, which I guess is an improvement of sorts.  The IRS adds insult to the injury of taxation.

Does the IRS pay interest on the refunds that are past due?

Mary, 😂. Um, nope.

Our state must be following their lead bc I just got last years refund. I’ve had the same account for the last 28 years and for some reason it was put on hold till I called. I suppose if I never got through….?

Actually they do pay interest on refunds but then send you a statement showing it as interest income. So if you (finally) get your 2021 refund this year it’s interest income for 2022. If it’s less than $10 then I think you don’t have to declare it as interest income.
Last year it took us 6 months to get our refund with no changes….. We paper file which is probably part of the reason for the delay. Nada so far this year….. almost 4 months waiting…..

My refund was almost five months late this year and I got $6.17 interest. I could buy a whole gallon of gas!

Theological issue: Is it a mortal sin to cheat on your taxes?

Stop being a victim.

Go to HR and lower your tax withholdings.

I do quarterly estimated tax returns/payments [a simple payment voucher is all you send] and I NEVER pay so much that the tax collectors owe me.

Then, I hand write the returns.

Mess with them any way you can.
